Files with the extension .dxr belong to one of five programs: Adobe Director, AEC DesignWare, Dependable Strengths, Green Building Advisor, and Vegas Jackpot Gold. The most common use is with Adobe Director, a software package to help create interactive games, simulations, educational programs, flash demos, and other media forms for the Windows and Mac platforms. The software assigns the .dxr extension to protected movie or animation files. It is similar to the .dir format but different in that the .dxr is locked and unable to be edited. The advantage of this format is in allowing the file to be distributed without giving recipients the ability to edit the file or see the contents thereof. Adobe Shockwave Player is the only known program that will allow the user to view these movies.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:
I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

Several third party developers have reportedly created software tools that will convert the Adobe .dxr to .dir format, but the success rate of such programs is questionable. There is also a question of ethics and legality, as the .dxr format was specifically developed to prevent unauthorized users from gaining protected information from the file. Users who chose to attempt a conversion do so at their own risk.
Occasionally users will run into an error when trying to play older .dxr files using a web browser with a Shockwave plugin. Older versions of Director used some scripts that by today's standards are considered unsafe, and many browser plugins do not include support for these scripts. There is no known work around for this error other than installing the corresponding version of Director and Flash/Shockwave player.

A similar error occurs when trying to open .dxr file created with Director 8.5 in the newer Director MX2. The file will begin playing normally, but after a few seconds will stop and give an error message similar to "the system cannot find the specified file". A work around has been reported which involves manipulating the Director.ini file and invoking the "old.dir". Details of this work around and its success rate are not known.
Dependable Strengths began as a software tool to help individuals define their strengths, talents, passions, and interests, primarily for career establishment purposes. The software, which is still available, has since been developed into a web-based application at the Dependable Strengths web site. Dependable Strengths .dxr files are Administrator resource files used to store data and settings for the software. The file format is proprietary and cannot be opened or accessed by any other software. Due to the nature of Administrator resource files, corrupted data could cause errors effecting the operation of the software. Care should be taken to prevent any attempt to open these files externally.
The next program in the list is Green Building Advisor, a program used by builders, architects, designers, and students to plan construction projects with as little environmental impact as possible. This software uses the .dxr extension on its designer files, but exactly what these files are is not known. It is assumed to be a proprietary format that cannot be opened externally.
Vegas Jackpot Gold is a virtual casino game for Windows and Mac with 50 table games and 200 video slot machines. The .dxr file for this software is a game file used for saving games in progress. It is unclear whether the .dxr extension is applied to all of the different game types, or just one. This format is proprietary to the software and cannot be accessed by any other programs.
AEC DesignWare is an old CAD program that's no longer produced or supported. Its use of the .dxr file extension has been verified, but what kind of files these were is unknown.
